On 25 July, Consul General Zhu Xinglong attended the public ceremony honoring revolutionary martyr Zhuo Huanlai. Around 300 people are also in attendance, including Assistant State Minister of Finance, YB Dato’ Sr. Mohd Ishak bin Datuk Ayub, President of the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce, Datuk Michael Lui Yen Sang, representatives from various sectors of consular districts and so on.

At the beginning of the ceremony, all attendees stood for a moment of silence to pay tribute to martyr Zhu Huanlai. Following this, Consul General Zhu and representatives from various sectors in Sabah laid wreaths at the monument successively, in a solemn and dignified atmosphere.

Zhuo Hunalai was the Consul of the Consulate of China in Sandakan, North Borneo. In 1942, Sandakan was occupied by the Japanese invaders. Facing the Japanese invaders’ threat and bribe, coercion and torture, Zhuo would die rather than surrender. On 6 July, 1945, Zhuo was killed by the Japanese. His revolutionary achievements which last along with mountains and shine forever like the sun and the moon are not only the concrete embodiment of the unyielding spirit of Chinese nation, but the historical memory of China and Malaysia fighting together against Japanese militarism.
