On 17 June, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, in partnership with Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah, jointly organized the special screening event of the film Dear You in Kota Kinabalu. Consul General Zhu Xinglong, Deputy Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, YB Datuk Richard Yong We Kong, and over 240 representatives of local Chinese communities from various sectors in the consular district attended the event.

Consul General Zhu stated in his opening speech that “Qiaopi” (a combination of mail remittance certificate sent by overseas Chinese to their families) is not only a piece of paper that connects the older generation of overseas Chinese to their homeland, but a vivid epitome of their arduous pioneering history to Southeast Asia and their unwavering patriotism. It preserves the cultural roots of worldwide Chinese communities, highlighting values of prioritizing family ties, staying loyal to families through turbulent times, never forgetting one's origins, and showing gratitude. Consul General Zhu wished that through film, a language that transcends national borders, more friends in Sabah, especially the younger generation, could immerse themselves in that arduous yet glorious history of “Xia Nanyang” (migration of Chinese people to Southeast Asia), making this cultural memory and deep love for ancestral roots shine even brighter in the new era.

Audiences were profoundly touched by the moving plots in the film, with many moved into tears.
