2021-01-11 01:09

The third edition of the China-Sabah Short Film Competition has garnered much support and awareness in Sabah this year with significant increase in the number and quality of submissions.

The competition, organized by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu in collaboration with Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA), has brought out the best in filmmakers, who highlighted the enduring friendship among China and Sabah and preservation of Chinese cultures through their video shooting techniques and editing skills.

The year 2020 had been immensely challenging for both China and Sabah. In the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, China and Sabah have demonstrated strong friendship and brotherhood in overcoming the pandemic together, bringing the people closer than ever.

In this competition, a portion of the submissions documented the moving stories of the joint effort between China and Sabah in battling against Covid-19 from the perspective of the filmmakers. Some showed the resilience of the people in overcoming these trying times through anecdotes. A participant even composed a song to celebrate life, love and the spirit of helping each other in these difficult times. Another promoted awareness on the precautious against Covid-19 through humour. The short films featured young and mature talents whose performance on portraying the solidarity between China and Sabah have truly touched the hearts of the audience.

Meanwhile, the organizer also received short films that showcased the preservation of Chinese cultures and the determination of overseas Chinese in keeping their traditions alive for the next generation.

It is indeed extremely difficult to select the winners among so many outstanding submissions.
