Hi video fans! Are you still regretting that you missed the previous competition?  Now's your chance, don't miss it again!  In order to publicize the touching stories of China and Sabah in the fields of deepening economic cooperation and cultural exchange, inheriting Chinese traditional culture, enhancing friendship and connectivity between the peoples of the two places, Consulate General of China in Kota Kinabalu and Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association officially launch the 5th China-Sabah Short Film Competition.  The details are as follows:

Open to present or former residents in Sabah regardless nationalities

V. Content and Requirements

A. Short Films Category

1. Content of the entry must be appropriate in nature and creative, depicting the friendship between China and Sabah from different perspectives, such as cooperations and exchanges, and the preservation of Chinese cultures in Sabah.  The films can be of any genre, including short documentary, video clips and digital animation.

2. Shooting device is not limited, mobile phones, cameras, DV, tablets, and others are allowed.

3. Submissions must not exceed 5 minutes, inclusive of beginning and end credits. 

4. The video format must be MP4 or other mainstream video streaming encoding format, and the recommended ratio is 16:9/16:9 HD.

5. The language or text in the video is not limited, and it is recommended to include Chinese,  English or Malay subtitles.

B. Tik Tok Category

1. Content of the entry must be appropriate in nature and creative, depicting the friendship between China and Sabah from different perspectives, such as cooperations and exchanges and the preservation of Chinese cultures in Sabah.  The films can be of any genre, including short documentary, video clips and digital animation.

2. The length of the video should not exceed 1 minute.

3. The resolution of the video must not be less than 1080x720 and the format is MP4 or other mainstream video streaming encoding format.

4. There is no limitation on the language or text in the video, it is recommended to include Chinese, English or Malay subtitles.

5. Please add hashtag: #chinasabahtiktok on Tik Tok post video.

VI. Submission

1. Please fill the entry form (scan QR code to download, one form for one entry) and upload the video entry to Youtube, setting as unlisted, then provide the link to the organizer along with the entry form via email to chinasabahshortfilmcontest@gmail.com.

2. Number of entries in the Short Films Category are limited to one entry per individual or group participant.  Each individual or group participant may submit maximum 3 entries in the Tik Tok Category.  Each individual or group participant can enter both the Short Films Category and Tik Tok Category.

VII.  Judging Criteria and Awards

1. Entries will be evaluated by relevant expert judges.  The results will be announced in February 2023, and the outstanding videos will be posted on various platforms. 

2. For the Short Films Category, 1 Gold Award, 3 Silver Awards, 5 Bronze Awards and a number of Consolation Awards will be given as follows:

Gold Award : RM3,000 cash and trophy

Silver Award : RM2,000 cash and trophy

Bronze Award : RM1,500 cash and trophy

Consolation Award : RM500 cash and trophy

3. For Tik Tok category, 1 Gold Award, 5 Silver Awards, 10 Bronze Awards and a number of Consolation Awards will be given as follows:

Gold Award : RM1,000 cash and certificate

Silver Award : RM800 cash and certificate

Bronze Award : RM500 cash and certificate

Consolation Award : RM300 cash and certificate

VIII. Copyright and Liability

1. The entries must be original works and the participants must be the legal owners of the works without any plagiarism or misappropriation of others' works, and do not constitute an infringement of any third party's copyright or other legal rights.  If the entry is found to have any suspected plagiarism, fraudulent behavior or infringement of intellectual property rights, the organizer will disqualify the entry.

2. If other people's portraits, photos, pictures or music were used in the entry, source must be indicated or authorization from the copyright holder to use it must be obtained.  The participant is responsible for the copyright issues involved in the content of the entry.

3. During the period of participating in this competition, the entries may not be authorized for use by a third party, and no individual or organization has the right to conduct any commercial activities without the permission of the organizing committee and the participant.

4. Once the entry is submitted, the participant is deemed to have authorized the organizer to promote the use of the entry to the public in any form, including but not limited to on radio, internet, mobile phone, TV, etc.

5. Anyone who submits an entry for the competition is deemed to have accepted the rules of the competition and may not withdraw the selected entry for any reason.

6. All participants should read these rules carefully before submitting their works.  Once the work is submitted, it means that the original creator of the video agrees to publish it, and is willing to accept these rules and abide by the agreement of them.

7. The Organizer reserves the right of final interpretation of this competition.
