The Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing from November 8th to 11th. Convened at an important historical moment of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, this meeting is held with a milestone significance at the major historical juncture when China has achieved the First Centenary Goal, building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and is moving towards the Second Centenary Goal. The most important result of the session was the discussion and approval of the Resolution on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party over the Past Century (hereinafter referred to as the Resolution), which comprehensively and systematically summarized the hard struggle, brilliant achievements and precious experiences of the Communist Party of China over the past century, particularly the historical achievements, changes and revolution that have been made in the socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era since the 18th CPC National Congress, profoundly revealed the success code of the Communist Party of China marching from victory to victory in the past 100 years.
1. A hundred years of hard work has achieved brilliance
As the third resolution since the founding of the Party, the Resolution firstly focused on the great historical achievements of the Communist Party of China for achieved the country and nation. Since its founding, the Communist Party of China has always fulfilled its original aspiration and mission of “to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation”. It leads the Chinese people to find the right path of achieving national independence, becoming prosperous and strong country and bringing happiness to the people. It creates great achievements such as the new-democratic revolution, socialist revolution and construction, reform and opening up, socialist modernization, and take the socialism with Chinese characteristics into the new era, inscribed the most magnificent chapter in the millennia-long history of the Chinese nation. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, China has transformed from being divided and scattered to a high degree of unity and national solidarity, from being poor and weak to moderately well-off in all respects, prosperous and strong, and from being passively bullied and abused to independent and self-confident. It took merely a few decades to complete the industrialization process that developed countries have gone through for hundreds of years, and created two miracles of rapid economic development and enduring social stability.
In particular, since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the Party Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping at the core has coordinated and grasped the overall strategy of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and major global changes unseen in a century. He has united and led the Chinese people to achieve great success for socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. All these efforts have provided robust institutional conditions, strong material foundations, and a source of inspiration for advancing the cause of national rejuvenation. The Chinese nation has realized the tremendous transformation from standing up and growing prosperous, to becoming strong. The Communist Party of China has also grown from a small party with just over 50 members into the largest governing party in the world, with more than 95 million members in a country of more than 1.4 billion people. It is a party of major international standing.
2. “Ten points of experience” is the essence of success
The Communist Party of China is a political party that values and is good at summing up historical experience by attaching importance of drawing lessons from and using them. By deriving wisdom and strength from history is an important reason why it has been able to continuously achieve victories and grow from small to large, from weak to strong. The Resolution scientifically explained why the Communist Party of China was able to succeed in the past and how it can continue to succeed in the future. It masterly generalized historical experience in ten aspects with fundamental and far-reaching guiding significance, namely, upholding the Party’s leadership, putting the people first, advancing theoretical innovation, staying independent, following the Chinese path, maintaining a global vision, breaking new ground, standing up for ourselves, promoting the united front, and remaining committed to self-reform.
These ten valuable historical experiences did not fall from the sky, were not copied from books, nor were they copied from other countries, but were summed up from the Party’s a hundred years of struggle. They were attained after a lot of hard work and huge price by the Chinese Communist Party in uniting and leading the Chinese people. These 10 points as a systemic, interconnected, and indivisible whole are critical to the continued success of the Party and the people. They are the sources of the Party’s inviolable strength, and are the very reasons why the Party has always been able to seize the historical initiative. They are essential for the Party to preserve its advanced nature and integrity and always stand at the forefront of the times. They are inclusive of success and failure, coagulated with blood and sweat, and full of wisdom and courage. They are not only the results of historical development, the products of historical practice, and the crystallization of historical struggle, but also the precious invisible wealth of the Chinese nation. They are the scientific guidelines for the Chinese Communist Party to lead China to future.
3. The global significance of Chinese path
The Communist Party of China not only seeks happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation, but also pursues development for mankind and unity for the world. Its continuous endeavor for self-improvement has profoundly changed the trend and pattern of world development. For a long time, the Communist Party of China has adhered to an independent path of peaceful development that does not depend on and plunder others, and will never seek hegemony. It not only develops itself through maintaining world peace, but also maintains world peace through its own development. In leading the people on a path of modernization with Chinse characteristic, it has created a new form of human civilization and expanded the options of modernization for developing countries, providing new choices for countries and nations in the world that both want to accelerate their development and maintain their independence.
In the future, the Communist Party of China will continue to fulfill the key principles of serving national rejuvenation and promoting progress for mankind, holding high the banner of peace, development, and win-win cooperation. It will insist on openness, mutual benefit and will not engage in isolation and zero-sum game. It will persist in upholding justice and lead the trend of human development. It shall actively develop global partnerships, promote the construction of a new type of international relations and build a community with a shared future for mankind. Acting as a crucial force in the human advancement, it will continue to contribute the Chinese wisdom, Chinese solutions and Chinese strength to solve major issues for mankind and to build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity.
