Online Opening Ceremony for 4th China-Sabah Short Film Competition Held Successfully

The online opening ceremony of the 4th China-Sabah Short Film Competition and the awards giving ceremony of the previous competition was successfully held on 6th November.

Consul General of China in Kota Kinabalu Mr. Liang Caide, Chairman of Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association Mr. Jimmy Goh, President of Sabah Institute of Art Prof. Dato’ Dr Wilson Yong Tung Yung, JP and President of Kota Kinabalu Film & Video Association Director Chua Soon Min attended the event. 

Consul General Liang Caide stated in his speech, over the past few years, the China-Sabah Short Film Competition has received eager attention and support from people from all walks of life in Sabah.  Not only has the number of entries been increased yearly, but the production quality has also improved greatly. These include many superior, professional, and meaningful productions which are widely circulated on the internet. Liang pointed out that facing the severe challenges of the pandemic, China and Sabah have always helped each other sharing weal and woe, in the last competition, many entry films told touching stories of China and Sabah working together to fight the pandemic and demonstrated the brotherhood commitment of China and Sabah as "Bukit Sama Didaki, Lurah Sama Dituruni". The Consulate General is willing to work with friends from all walks of life to dispel the haze of the pandemic, and make every effort to promote the resumption of exchanges and cooperation in the cultural field between China and Sabah as soon as possible, opening a new chapter of the "China-Sabah relationship".

Liang announced the official opening of 4th China-Sabah Short Film Competition and call on all friends to actively participate in the 4th China-Sabah Short Film Competition, to incorporate the boundless hope for a better future, the positive outlook for China-Sabah cooperation, and the persistent perception of Chinese culture into the visual language.  Composing the most beautiful poems of friendship with enthusiasm and inspiration, and striving to be an active promoter of the development of China-Malaysia relations and the best story teller of the China-Sabah cooperation.


The chairman of Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association Mr. Jimmy Goh in his speech thanked the Chinese Consulate for providing video enthusiasts with a platform to reflect the friendship between China and Sabah through their works. The Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association will further strengthen cooperation with the Consulate to make the event a high-level cultural exchange festival that attracts more attention, and make greater contributions to promoting the communication between the people of China and Sabah.

The event announced the list of winning works of the previous competition, and played online the works that won gold, silver, and bronze awards, as well as the best creative award and the best editing award. The gold prize winner Chin Shuk Wei delivered a acceptance speech on the award, saying that she will continue to work hard and innovate to contribute more outstanding works to the friendship between China and Sabah.

The competition is jointly organized by the Chinese Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu and the Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association. The purpose of the competition is to enhance the bonding and cultural exchange between the people of China and Sabah through in-depth propagating touching stories of both places in many fields such as the joint battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, promotion of economic and trade practical cooperation and cultural exchanges, etc.
