2020-09-28 11:27

Dear friends from all walks of life in Sabah and Labuan,

fellow compatriots:

    Hello everyone!

In every National Day of China, it is a time for us to gather together with friends from all walks of life in Sabah and Labuan. Affected by the pandemic, nonetheless, we are celebrating the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in such a special way today. First of all, on behalf of the staff of the Chinese Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu, I wish the great motherland a happy birthday! I would also like to extend my sincere greetings to friends from all walks of life in Sabah and Labuan who have always been concerned about China's development and committed to China-Malaysia and China-Sabah friendly relations!

A Chinese saying goes, the land of a country has witnessed the most unusual moments in time of its. 71 years ago, New China stood up in the east of the world. Advancing through hardship and forging ahead for 71 years, the great Chinese people have created a miracle of the East with their diligence and wisdom. They have impressed the world by making great achievements. China has transformed from a state of poverty and devastation to the world’s second largest economy, from lacking of food and clothing to achieving a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and absolute poverty, which has haunted for thousands of years, will soon become a thing of the past... Looking through the history, it is unprecedented to have achieved so much in such a short period of time that have changed the destiny of so many people. As a Chinese citizen who has experienced the marvel and great changes, I am full of pride and emotions. I not only salute the epic progress of the motherland, but also sincerely wish the motherland a better future!

A Chinese saying goes, when the seas are in turmoil, heroes are on their mettle. Since the beginning of this year, a sudden COVID-19 pandemic has swept the world, and China has been the first to bear the brunt. Confronting the fierce natural disaster, the Chinese government made overall plans and responded calmly by adopting unparalleled large-scale isolation measures and mobilized resources across the country for medical treatment. A decisive victory in epidemic prevention and control was achieved in a relatively short period of time. Facing the serious impact caused by the epidemic, the Chinese government turned the pressure into driving force, orderly restored productivity and life, and fully released the huge and resilient power of the Chinese economy. In the second quarter, it strikes a rapid reversal of economic trends, and lays a solid foundation in fully achieving the yearly economic and social development goals.

A Chinese saying goes, though in different national terrains, we nevertheless share the same skies. Amid the severely challenging anti-pandemic, China and Sabah have always been helping each other, sharing weal and woe, which can be regarded as a model of international anti-pandemic cooperation. When the epidemic hit China at the worst, the state government and people of Sabah reached out in a timely manner and provided a lot of valuable support for China in fighting against the epidemic. After the outbreak occurred in Sabah, the Consulate General immediately went all out to raise multiple batches of anti-epidemic materials to aid Sabah. In April this year, the Chinese Medical Expert Team made a special trip to Sabah to help in anti-epidemic. Although the pandemic has temporarily affected the people-to-people exchanges between China and Sabah, the friendship between the people of China and Sabah has been further sublimated through joint effort of fighting against the pandemic.

As the saying of “there will be rainbow after the storm”, when the pandemic disappears and the threat clears, Sabah will welcome more tourists from China, and the exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and Sabah will be closer. We are willing to work together with the people of Sabah and Labuan to open a new chapter of China-Sabah cooperation after the pandemic.

Amid the pandemic, sharing the same destiny with the motherland, Chinese companies and fellow citizens in the consular area donated money and materials to support the motherland in anti-epidemic. With care and concerned, the Consulate General elaborated health kits for the overseas Chinese and students in Sabah when epidemic happened.

    Fellow compatriots, friends!

This year marks the 46th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. This is my fourth year of working in Sabah. Here, I would like to thank the Sabah State Government and friends from all walks of life for their strong support to the work of the Consulate General and myself over the past three years. The Consulate General is willing to work closely with the new Sabah State Government to further enhance exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and Sabah, bringing benefits to the people of both places!

Lastly, let us wish prosperity to China and Malaysia, happiness and well-being to the peoples! May the friendship between China and Malaysia last forever and the cooperation between China and Sabah achieve greater glories!

    Thank you!
